Food Access
During COVID Stacey saw how much shelter and food access needs were increasing. In response to this, she created the Community Outreach Assistance Team (COAT). COAT provided not only food, but also access to heat during cold months, and cold weather clothes. The team has continued to function over the years, collaborating with Linn Benton food share and local citizens to provide food, money, and grants to those in need through Community Services Consortium, as well as continuing to be a shelter and food insecurity resource itself.
Along with her work at COAT, Stacey has been volunteering at First Christian Church’s community meal for a number of years, supporting their food assistance work.
In Ward 2, many of us in South Albany live in a food desert. Food is getting too expensive and we need more access to healthy, fresh foods, not just our favorite soft drinks in jumbo sizes. With more people calling Albany home every day in ward 2, we deserve better than having to travel several miles to get to a grocery store. Stacey has seen the impacts of food insecurity first hand, and has organized to support this community’s access to food resources.
As your councilor, Stacey’s goal will be to bring a grocery store to South Ward 2.
